The Inner Path
The Tropic of Cancer, one of the five major circles of latitude, crosses 17 countries and seven water bodies at the length about 36,788 kilometers. Most regions on the Tropic of Cancer experience dry desert climate and Taiwan, the land of abundance, the only exception like an oasis in a desert among countries that the Tropic of Cancer passes through, boasts diverse topologies, landscape, ecosystems, and cultures. If the Tropic of Cancer is compared to as a necklace, Taiwan is the fantastic, shiny green emerald gem on it.
The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary line that presents the most northerly circle of latitude on Earth at which the Sun can be directly overhead. On the five markers of the Tropic of Cancer, the imaginary line actually presents the joint coordinate system. From the Taiwan Strait to the Pacific Ocean and from Hujingyu, Penghu to Jingpu, Hualien, the Tropic of Cancer passes through six cities and counties and four mountains in Taiwan. From sea level to Yushan (Jade Mountain) rising to a height of 3,952 meters. The Tropic of Cancer is no longer an imaginary line and we can make road trips along the way. We can walk, bike, take a bus, ride on the forest railway, boat or even navigate at sea. With diverse vehicles, trips to marker sites of the Tropic of Cancer, long or long ones, are full of excitement and stories featuring Taiwan’s natural and cultural wonders.
Being passed through by the Tropic of Cancer, this exhibition listed 17 featured marker sites that have been long known. Not only as the constellation to provide direction guide, also to re-initiate the new “East-West Cross Highway”. These sites, however, because of the Tropic of Cancer, were connected with new meanings that inspire viewers to pay attention to the human-nature relationship, collective cultural memories in diver ethnic groups, and appreciate multi-cultures. Being firm with dignity and self-reliance, Taiwan continuously grows and new insights are gained when stepping on this new Tropic of Cancer route.
In its first decade, Seed Design believed in the importance of contemporary design, Genius Loci, and fun in life and transformed the belief into the provision of cultural services and sprit management counselling. In its second decade, Seed Design has been on the journey of solar terms to search serenity and to look for the relationship between itself, the land, history, and others.
